During the month of August things are a little quieter at the Dersingham Village Centre. Some of our regular weekly hirers take a break during this month, which makes it a good time to carry out a bit of maintenance, painting and decorating and so on.
The Centre will be closed from Monday 22nd August until Friday 26th. During this short closure we hope to carry out a few essential tasks which will further improve the Centre for our visitors and hirers. The building will reopen on Saturday 27th August. Thank you for your support!
Every month there’s a chance to win a Village Centre Lottery prize. By taking part in the Lottery you directly help the Centre with both day-to-day running expenses and with our rolling programme of updating and improving the furniture and equipment of the Centre. Of course, we would love to have more players so that the Centre gets even more help.

A big thank you to everyone who supported our recent Village Voice Live event, which was a fascinating talk by Dr Paul Richards about the Port of King’s Lynn, Past and Present. Over forty people attended, which made it a very successful evening.
The Trustees of the Village Centre have been thinking about the future of Village Voice Live, which has suffered from a lack of support since the event restarted after the various lockdowns. The talks, which have been running for over fifteen years, will be taking a break now, but they could return if there is enough public support. We welcome your views and any suggestions for new speakers or topics.
If there is enough interest we will hope to organise some more talks either later this year or early in 2023. Meanwhile we take this opportunity to thank Parish Councillor Tony Bubb, who initiated Village Voice Live and has been the driving force behind it over many years!
The next film screening in the Village Centre will be on Tuesday 26th July. The film is The Last Bus (12), starring Timothy Spall and Phyllis Logan. Spall plays the part of a man who spent many happy years in Cornwall with his then young wife. Eventually the couple relocated to Scotland where she dies and her by now ancient husband makes it his mission to return her ashes to their beloved Cornwall. To do this he uses the only means at his disposal – his bus pass.
The film will commence at 7.30pm and tickets are available on the door, priced at £6 with under 16s £3. Entry includes a cup of tea, coffee or squash. A licensed bar is available.
The next of our monthly talks is this Tuesday 12th July at 7.30pm. The ever popular Lynn historian Dr Paul Richards will be giving a talk on The Port of King’s Lynn – Then and Now. As always the talk is bound to be packed with fascinating facts and interesting anecdotes!

Dr Richards’s talk will mark the end of the current season of Village Voice Live. If the event is well supported then there may be more talks in the future, but only if the demand is there from yourselves. In the meantime we would like to thank Tony Bubb who has been tireless in his quest to find interesting and entertaining speakers. Village Voice Live has been running for over fifteen years now and it would be a shame for the event to fade away. So, please come along and enjoy a good evening.

The next film screening in the Village Centre will be just the ticket for Wimbledon fortnight! King Richard (12) tells the amazing story of how tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams got their start, thanks to the vision and brazen plan of their father Richard Williams. A film not only for tennis fans but for anyone who loves a film about overcoming all the odds!
As a special Wimbledon fortnight event, there will be strawberries and cream and Pimms available to purchase. You can pre-order these when buying your ticket and enjoy them in the film’s interval.
To allow for a longer than usual strawberry eating interval, the film will commence at the earlier than normal time of 7.00pm. Tickets are available on the door, priced at £6 with under 16s £3. Entry includes a cup of tea, coffee or squash. In addition to Pimms, a licensed bar is available.
Body Control Pilates tutor Elke is starting a new group as a Course on Thursdays at 12.30pm. The sessions will be held in the Village Centre beginning on Thursday 23rd June, so book now with Elke to reserve your place. The sessions are suitable for both men and women and are graded as beginner/refresher/moderate.
