Village Centre Update – 14th October 2020

We are pleased say that, at the current moment, the risk level in our local area is classed as “medium” which is in fact the lowest level that applies to any part of England. This means that we can continue to keep the Centre open and to welcome participants at many of our weekly exercise and dance groups and at our regular coffee mornings.
The Government has provided us with a poster which gives more information about what “medium risk” actually consists of.  Needless to say, we continue to assess our activities, events and bookings against the Government Guidance and we will issue further updates here when we are able to do so. In the meantime stay safe, look after yourself and others. Let’s keep Dersingham well!

October Lottery Draw

image of lottery drawEvery month there’s a chance to win a Village Centre Lottery prize. We are very appreciative of our supporters and now that the Centre has reopened the proceeds of the lottery become even more important. New and different items need to be bought in order that the building is fully Covid-19 secure and we need to boost our income to cover the running costs of the Centre. Due to the limitations placed on us by government guidance, the income that we are able to achieve is not sufficient to cover the regular outgoings, particularly as we are coming into the cooler weather when our heating costs increase.

This month’s draw was made on Wednesday 14th October 2020 at the Village Centre.

The results are: First prize, number 13 winning £24.00. Second prize number 17 winning £16.00 and third prize number 25 winning £8.00.

Congratulations to the lucky prize winners and if you Subscribe to our Lottery you could join them, plus you’ll be giving us a big helping hand. Thank you – we really need your support!

Village Centre Update – 10th September

Following the recent Government announcement, the Trustees will be revising the Covid-19 Response Plan for the Centre. They will then communicate with the Group Leaders.
Members of regular activity groups should contact their Group Leader for confirmation of whether or not they will be continuing; other activities will be reviewed to ensure they comply with the updated guidance. One-off hirings will be assessed on an individual basis against the Government Guidance and people with existing bookings will be contacted by the Trustees. Future bookings will of course be assessed against Government guidance.
We will issue a further update as soon as the situation becomes clearer. In the meantime stay safe, look after yourself and others. Let’s keep Dersingham well!

Open Gardens – next weekend 5th – 6th September

logo of open gardensRather later in the year than anticipated, but Dersingham will open over twelve gardens this coming weekend 5th and 6th September, from 11.00am – 5.00pm both days.

The popular event normally takes place over the end of May bank holiday, but due to the pandemic it had to be put on hold for a few months. Nonetheless, there will still be a whiff of Chelsea in the air as you wander round and, yes, there will be tea and cake at the Village Centre!

Tickets cost £5 on the day from the Village Centre, note that there are no advance tickets this year. Children under 16 free but must be accompanied by an adult. On buying your ticket you will be given a guide to the gardens. All profits will be shared between the two charities of St Nicholas Church and the Village Centre.

There are two extra events. Firstly, there will be numerous (50 at the latest count) yard sales going on around the village, where there are sure to be some bargains. The yards are also raising money for the church and the Centre and there will be a guide to the yards available at the Village Centre, or at 19 Holyrood Drive. It costs £1 and all proceeds go to the charities.

Secondly, in the evening there will be a special screening at the Village Cinema, in the main hall of the Centre. The film is Doolittle, the most recent remake of the Doctor Doolittle story about a doctor who really can talk to animals. There are full details on the poster and in last week’s blog post.

Let’s all hope for good weather. Stay safe, remember to socially distance in the gardens and it will be a great event!

It is important for everyone to know that because of the current health situation there are some extra measures that we have to put in place for the film screening.Numbers attending will be strictly limited, consequently pre-booking is necessary.
