The Village Centre reopens

corona virus imageWe have now reopened the Village Centre in a limited way, with small groups of exercise and dance classes resuming this week. A big welcome back to them!

At the present time the only rooms in the Centre that are open are: the main St Nicholas Hall, the entrance lobby and the toilet off the main hall. All other rooms, the Garden Room, the Loft, the Hub, the kitchen, the main toilets etc. will remain closed for the time being.

Once we have had some experience of running the Centre in the limited manner outlined above, we will start to plan for the opening up of the venue for other events and functions.  We will post more information here as soon as the situation becomes clearer.

Please do not come to the Centre unless it is for a prearranged group activity such as an exercise of dance class. Also, you should only come to a class if you have been definitely told by your tutor that it will be running. The Centre will not be open at the moment for any other visitors.

Meanwhile, stay safe, protect yourself and protect others and keep washing those hands. Let’s keep Dersingham fit and healthy!

Village Centre Update – 17th July 2020

corona virus imageOur planned reopening on the 6th July had to be delayed, due to Government restrictions on exercise and dance classes. But fortunately, those restrictions have been relaxed now, therefore we are making plans for limited opening from Saturday 25th July. It is important to say that, even at this late stage, there is a possibility of further changes to Government guidance, but we are hopeful that this time we really can start to welcome people back to the Centre!

What we hope will be possible . . .

The resumption of small groups of exercise and dance classes that use the main hall. Groups that normally use the smaller rooms in the Centre will have to  move temporarily into the main hall in order to maintain the correct social distancing.

The only rooms in the Centre that will be open initially will be: the main St Nicholas Hall, the entrance lobby and the toilet off the main hall. All other rooms, the Garden Room, the Loft, the Hub, the kitchen, the main toilets etc. will remain closed for the time being.

What we will NOT be able to do straight away . . .

In a normal week the Centre is used for many different types of event, including parties, weddings, community lunches, Village Voice talks, the Village Cinema and others. None of these will be able to take place yet. Once we have had some experience of running the Centre in the limited manner outlined above, we will start to plan for the opening up of the venue for these larger functions. It is not currently possible to say when this will be.

Village Centre Update 30th June

corona virus image

The 6th of July is slowly approaching, and from that date the Village Centre will be once again available for hire. However, our reopening is not quite what we had planned. Government guidance means that exercise and dance classes cannot yet restart and there is no clear indication as to when this will change.

The DVCA Trustees are, of course, disappointed, but the safety of everybody is paramount.   The Centre will be available for hire for any event the does meet Government guidelines and you are invited to contact us via bookings@dersinghamvillagecentre.org.uk  Indeed, we can take future bookings for all types of event, but it is important to understand that any booking is completely dependent on the Government guidelines and laws that are in force at the relevant time. Additionally, the DVCA must reserve the right to cancel any booking if the Trustees feel that, for any reason, it cannot take place safely.

We will bring you further updates as soon as we are able to do so. Meanwhile, stay safe, protect yourself and protect others and keep washing those hands. Let’s keep Dersingham fit and healthy!

Be Alert . . . For Coronavirus Crime

corona virus imageJust a timely reminder to everyone that unfortunately “in times of crisis, crime increases”. There are numerous scams doing the rounds at the moment, with criminals trying to prey on vulnerability and fear of the virus.

With the launch of the Government’s Track and Trace scheme recently, it seems that the crooks have gone into overdrive, with numerous reports of bogus phone calls purporting to be from the NHS Track and Trace Service. However, all those calls have one thing in common – they ask you for a payment for a Covid-19 test.  An NHS test is free, so if you’re asked for a payment, typically £50 for a testing kit, then it’s a scam and you should hang up.

There are plenty of other scams too, so before you give anyone your payment details ask yourself one simple question “is this really genuine?” If you have the slightest doubt, ask the caller to ring back later, after you’ve had a chance to check them out. If you’re pressured to make a decision there and then, it’s a scam.

You can find lots of information about  current scams on the Norfolk Trading Standards website. It’s well worth a look.

Be on your guard. Stay safe, protect yourself and protect others and keep washing those hands. Let’s keep Dersingham fit and healthy!

Village Centre Update 29th May 2020

corona virus imageAs we said a couple of weeks ago, slowly the lock-down is being eased and the Village Centre Trustees are planning for the day when we can start to reopen the Centre.

We are hopeful that in due course, as part of the Government’s planned Stage 3 release of the lock-down, we may be able to open at least part of the Centre for exercise and dance classes. The current guidance from the Government is that the Stage 3 release will not be until the beginning of July, at the earliest. Accordingly, we are making plans for limited opening from Monday 6th July.

The Trustees have also decided that the 6th of July will be the earliest date that the Centre will reopen, even if government guidance changes to allow legal opening before then. We need the coming weeks to prepare the Centre for safe reopening. It is important to realise that at the time of writing, in late May, the date of the 6th July cannot be regarded as a certainty. It will depend on how things progress over the next few weeks.

None of these will be able to take place yet. Once we have had some experience of running the Centre in the limited manner outlined above, we will start to plan for the opening up of the venue for these larger functions. It is not currently possible to say when this will be. We will post more information here as soon as the situation becomes clearer. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Elke’s Pilates Classes Go Online!

image of pilates groupLike all exercise groups at the Centre, the Pilates groups with Elke have had to take an enforced break during lock-down. However, Elke is organising some online classes for you! See the details below and get in touch with her to book your place:  Contrology8@gmail.com or telephone 07971 440539.

NEW – Online Live – Slinky Stretch Mat Class

Thursdays 6.00 – 6:45pm

We know many of you might be disappointed to have missed being able to come to your usual exercise class whilst the Dersingham Village Centre pauses during lock-down, which is why now is an amazing time to plan and get involved with Elke’s live online “Slinky Stretch Mat Class”.
Elke is a local resident and a long standing Dersingham Village Centre user and volunteer. As a certified, insured and qualified teacher of the Body Control Pilates method for over 18 years, Elke has gained a great following and reputation with emphasis on safety and precision. Her timetable has extended to help get you stretching and moving – live online!
The Slinky Stretch Mat Class has been carefully designed for all through this time, including teens and especially those that perhaps don’t usually attend the Pilates but fancy a good honest stretch whilst we manage ourselves and well-being during the lock-down.
You’ll gain better flexibility, strength through your abdominals and legs and feel looser whilst being guided and encouraged through the floor based exercises.
Combat feeling tight in your shoulders, back and neck, lift that mood and boost back some positive energy whilst creating a fabulous body!
(No bad backs please, pop back when it’s safe to do so).
Give yourself something to look forward to. You just need a mat, a small space to exercise, internet connection and laptop / tablet/device with webcam. This is a live streaming class so both can be seen.
Thursdays 6.00pm – 6:45pm. Advanced bookings online £6.

Get in touch soon with Elke and have yourself a great smooth workout:  Contrology8@gmail.com or telephone 07971 440539.
When the Centre reopens Elke will carry on teaching her various classes and so you can get involved.

Village Centre Update 15th May 2020

corona virus imageIn tiny steps the lock-down is being eased and the Village Centre Trustees are planning for the day when we can start to reopen the Centre. For the moment, all we can do is make plans and it is certain that there will be no return to business as usual for some time. The Centre will definitely not be opening during either the remainder of May or in June.

But, we are hopeful that in due course, as part of the Government’s planned Stage 3 release of the lock-down, we may be able to open at least part of the Centre for exercise and dance classes. When that will be depends entirely on how things go over the next few weeks, we will keep you posted as the situation develops.

To all those who enjoy coming to the classes, talks, film shows and other events that take place in the Village Centre we can only say sorry. We will be back as soon as we can!

Meanwhile, stay safe, stay at home and keep washing those hands. Let’s keep Dersingham fit and healthy!
