August Lottery Draw

image of lottery drawThere are three prize winners each month in our Village Centre fundraising lottery and you might be one of them! But you have to be in it to win it, so if you’re not already subscribing to our fundraising Lottery, please go to the fundraising page on our website and sign up. It’s really important to keep the money rolling in, because there are still many additions and improvements that we want to make for the benefit of all users. Just in the last few weeks we have bought a new radio microphone, some additional staging and we are currently upgrading the window blinds to give a better experience at film screenings etc.

The August draw took place in the Centre on Tuesday 13th August, at the monthly Village Voice Live talk. The winning numbers were:

1st prize, number 19 winning £32.25
2nd prize, number 39 winning £21.50
3rd prize, number 22 winning £10.75

The Joy of Food – Free Cooking Course

Joy of Food is a FREE cookery skills programme which is run in partnership with Norfolk Community Learning Services. Learners will build on their cooking confidence, improve skills and abilities and best of all, learn how to cook simple and delicious dishes that can be taken home to eat.

All equipment and ingredients are provided. Dietary requirements and food allergies can be catered for. To find out more, please contact: joyoffood@norfolk.gov.uk Nick Buck – 07738 708554.  All participants will receive a ‘Joy of food’ recipe book on completion of the course.

Her Majesty drops in to the Village Centre

We have been honoured and absolutely delighted that Her Majesty the Queen made a private visit to Dersingham Village Centre on Friday 5th July, welcomed by flag-waving children from Dersingham Primary School. After being greeted by Sue Payne, a Centre Trustee and former Parish Council Chairman, and Coral Shepherd, current Chairman of the Parish Council, Her Majesty was shown around the Centre by Sue. Then David Collingham, Chairman of the Dersingham Village Centre Association, introduced the Queen to representatives of groups who use the Centre and who described the wide range of activities that take place. Finally, the Queen unveiled a plaque, behind which was a photograph of King George V who kindly donated the land for the original village hall back in 1911. On departure, Phoebe Ward presented the Queen with a posy.

Photographs of the occasion were taken by Jo Halpin Jones and you can see some of them here.

Chalk Painting with Alex Dixon

Alex Dixon is starting a series of workshops which will teach you how to use chalk paints on furniture or indeed any other item. The next session is on Saturday 3rd August at 10.00am – 2.00pm, in the Garden Room at the Village Centre. All the details are below, please contact Alex to book or if you need more information. Phone 07981 294092, or email: info@fadetogreynorfolk.co.uk You can also find Alex on Facebook at FadetoGreyNorfolk or go to her website http://fadetogreynorfolk.co.uk

Session times: The session runs between 10am – 2pm, but you can come when you want and stay as long as you want between these times. This means you can bring whatever size piece you would like with you from a picture frame, ornament or mirror up to a larger piece of furniture. Obviously you may not finish a larger piece within the timescale, but you can either come back and finish on another session or take it home to complete. You should have learnt enough of the techniques to be able to do that and extra paint will be available to purchase.

These sessions are on a first-come first-served basis, so pre-booking is advised but not essential. A small deposit will secure you a space.

Cost: The cost is £16 per session which includes a 150ml pot of chalk paint in the colour of your choice. This would be enough to cover a piece of furniture about the size of a bedside cabinet or coffee table.

You can either bring your own project or piece of furniture, or we will have a selection of crates, caddies, magazine racks, wooden ducks, bunting etc that you can purchase. There will also be a variety of stencils crackle glaze and napkins available if you’d like to have a go at decoupage or stencilling.

What to Bring: All other equipment such as brushes, aprons, sandpaper etc will be provided, but please wear old clothes, or something that wouldn’t stress you out too much if you got paint on it as you may get a little messy!
