Food Glorious Food

Food – we all love it, but do we know how to cook it, or how to make exciting cake decorations, for example?

At the Village Centre we have two new food courses coming up between now and Christmas. The Joy of Food teaches basic cooking skills that improve your cooking confidence. The next FREE four week course starts on November 7th. Meanwhile, the Christmas Sugar Craft Workshops with Michelle Carpenter show you how to make beautiful seasonal decorations for the Christmas table. The first workshop is on Thursday 21st November.

See the posters below for full details and booking information. Places are limited so secure your place now and get cookin’!

Village Centre Lottery – More Support Please!

image of lottery drawFirstly, a big thank you to all those supporting our fundraising through the Village Centre Lottery. Every month there’s the chance to win a cash prize and to know that you are helping the Centre become an even better resource for the community.

There is much more that still needs to be done. More tables and chairs, improved audio-visual equipment, better kitchen facilities for our community lunches and other events, the list goes on.  A building like the Village Centre always needs something doing to it – redecorating, bumper strips to stop chairs damaging the walls, as soon as something gets ticked off the list, something else goes on the bottom!

So, please help us by continuing to support the Lottery and by joining if you haven’t already. All the information can be found on our website Fundraising page, where there’s a Subscribe button which let’s you set up an online payment of £5 per month. Or, there are links to a form which you can print off and post or take to the Centre. We really do need you!

Meanwhile, the most recent draw of Lottery prizewinners was made on Tuesday 15th October at our popular community lunch. Winners are as follows:

First prize, number 45 winning £30. Second prize number 3 winning £20 and third prize number 39 winning £10. Congratulations to the lucky prize winners. Subscribe to our Lottery and you could join those winners, plus you’ll be giving us a big helping hand. Thank you!

Lottery Draw september

image of lottery draw

The draw for the Village Centre Lottery was made today at our Community Lunch. The three lucky winners share the prize fund as follows:

1st Prize number 6 winning £30.00

2nd Prize number 29 winning £20

3rd Prize number 44 winning £10

A bit of a plea from the heart. Lottery subscriptions are diminishing, probably because people think that the Centre is up and running now and that nothing needs to be spent. However, we have a rolling programme of improvements and the purchase of new equipment. More tables and chairs, more kitchen cupboards, a better quality sound system for cinema screenings, these are just a few items that we need to raise money for. So please support our Lottery, it only costs £5 per month and you will be helping the Centre which is here for the benefit of the whole village. Information on how to join or renew a Lottery subscription can be found on our website DersinghamVillageCentre.org.uk/fundraising.html Thanks!

Village Cinema and Supper

Village Cinema poster September 2019Our next screening at the Village Cinema is on Tuesday 24th September. The film is Stan & Ollie, the story of comedy duo Laurel and Hardy’s final tour of Britain, shortly after World War II. Brilliantly acted by Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel and John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy, those who remember old black and white films of the two will be amazed at the likeness. There are plenty of funny moments, but it also has the pathos of stars who were once the toast of Hollywood but are now rapidly declining into ‘has beens’.

Before the screening there is the chance to enjoy supper at the Centre, at 6.00pm. You need to pre-book supper by phoning Shirley on 01485 540644. Lasagne is on the menu, with both a meat and veggie option. Tea and coffee included, other drinks available to buy.

Tickets cost £10 with supper or £5 without. Children under 16 half price. The film will be shown at 7.30pm.
